Background

The Adelaide Collective have searched continuously for 30 years and very seriously for 10 years to honour the request from Shri Mataji to establish an Ashram in Adelaide.

The Search

Numerous options have been looked at with varying land zonings and some properties were bid for at auction and some very close offers made.

At the time, these options were pursued it was possible for the Collective to obtain a mortgage which would have enabled us to use the existing funds and then to complete the purchase with monthly commitments from the yogis.

By early 2023 this avenue had dried up with a mortgage no longer a possibility because of changes in bank operations. With this in mind, the collective decided that we needed to buy land with the funds we had and then build as more funds became available.

Adelaide has always been supported tremendously by the National Collective both financially and spiritually and we thank those who have already and continue to donate from the bottom of our hearts. Adelaide is a small Collective which we hope to grow with the establishment of an Ashram and without Australia wide Collective support this journey would not have happened.

From then on we searched for land within a short distance of Adelaide because Adelaide was now out of our price range. Proximity to Adelaide was an important priority for the Collective as they want to be able to use it regularly.

Land purchased!

A new development at Swanport Heights, Murray Bridge opened up and by June 2023 Lot 11 was purchased an hour’s drive from the city and even closer to some yogis. It was a large 2,505sqm idealic block for $195,000. Some felt this property had the coolest vibrations of any of the properties we had looked at in all the years of searching.

Shortly after three yogi families bought adjacent properties partly surrounding the ashram property. In the meantime yogis continued to visit with special visit from brothers from WA.

Our first collective visit on August 20th 2023  was one of great excitement and a small Puja was held.

The Ashram to build

Collectively viewing display homes to get ideas of designs.

After looking at dozens of designs we are currently costing  two designs and other variations on them. Zoning means that the outside of our property needs to look appropriate to the development.

Funding support

We currently have $180,000 remaining in the account in Adelaide. We estimate that we need to raise another $200,000 approximately. Yogis have already been generous and patient through this process. If you would like to help further with the completion of Shri Mataji’s vision for Adelaide please see the following bank details. Adelaide will continue to donate and fund raise with a dinner planned soon.

“Mother come in my brain.” prayer

Shri Mataji in Adelaide giving us the “Mother come in my brain.” prayer.

HH Shri Mataji talks about the significance of the “Adelaide” name

“Actually Adi-la. La is Lalita. La is Lalita and Adi the Primordial Lalita, and lalita is left sided. So it is to be taken from Adi-lada. Adi-lada. It comes from four words, Adi. Adi, la, da. Alright. So Adi-la. La means lalita and da means the one giver. So the giver of the Adi-lalita is Adi-laid. Alright it has a big name if you try to really see through it. I don’t know how they gave this name to this place. Why maybe the unconscious has done it.”
HH Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, Puja, 4 March 1983, Adelaide
