Jai Shri Mataji!
On this day of Dhanteras, Goddess Lakshmi came out of the ocean during the churning of the Milky Sea. Hence, Goddess Lakshmi, along with Lord Kubera who is the God of wealth, is worshipped.
At Diwali Puja 1998, Shri Mataji spoke about the importance of Dhanteras to reminder us we must respect our wives – “…You have to buy something for your wife, and you have to give her something as a present.”

The day of Dhanteras is also observed as Dhanvantri Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the God of Ayurveda /Medicine.

“So it’s very important that on this day we call it Dhanteras – the thirteenth day – you have to buy something for your wife, and you have to give her something as a present. At least you should buy a little pot or something that can be used in the kitchen to show your respect to her. In the families where mother is not respected children become extremely troublesome and the whole, their family also suffers – wherever they are married, whatever happens to them. Men have to realize, it is their mistake that they have never respected their wife as they should have.”
