Makar Sankranti – Invitation & Webcast

Celebrating Makar Sankranti
Wednesday 14th January 2026
Invitation & Webcast – Makar Sankranti Puja Offering, Burwood Ashram 14th January 2026
On this day, we celebrate Makar Sankranti, the sacred turning in nature when the Sun begins its northward journey – Uttarāyaṇa. In the Indian tradition this is a time of renewal, purity, and auspicious ascent. In Sahaja Yoga, we understand this movement as a beautiful reminder that the whole creation supports our inner ascent: just as the Sun changes direction, our attention can also turn inward – toward the Spirit – becoming steadier, brighter, and more balanced.
The Sun principle within us represents clarity, dignity, and dharma. Yet in Sahaja Yoga we learn that true radiance is not harsh or dominating – it is nourishing, like sunlight that ripens the harvest and awakens life. Makar Sankranti therefore invites us to come into the point of balance: to drop ego and conditioning, to become sweeter, more humble, and more collective – so that our vibrations flow more purely and our Kundalini can work without obstruction.
On this day we offer our gratitude to Adi Shakti, to Mother Earth, and to the living divine process within us. We pray that our ascent becomes our priority, that our hearts become deeper, and that we become instruments of peace and joy – spreading the cool breeze of the Holy Spirit in our families, collectivity, and the world.
As Her Holiness Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi explained about Sankranti:
“Sankranti means that today something new is going to happen. Today is the day where we celebrate the change of the axis of the Sun…”
So let this “new” happening be within us: a renewed surrender, a renewed connection to our Spirit, and a renewed dedication to our daily meditation, so that the light of Sahaja Yoga grows stronger – not only in us, but around us.
Jai Shri Mataji.
