Passing of Marillyn Fogarty

Passing of Marillyn Fogarty

8 April 1937 – 2 March 2023

(Details of Funeral service)

It is with great sadness that we report the peaceful ending of Marillyn’s life on Thursday 2 March.

Aunty Marillyn with Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi -Taronga Zoo Sydney 1981

Aunty Marillyn received her self-realisation in 1980 and was one of the founding yogis of the Australian Sahaja Yoga collective. She was universally loved and respected for a life of devotion to Shri Mataji and for her kindness and loyalty to her friends and family.

Ever cheerful and sociable, she had a gift for making and keeping a large number of friends wherever she was. Marillyn had the ability to encourage, reassure and support those she befriended.

Aunty Marillyn was one of those rare people who implicitly understood the importance of the search for inner meaning and life’s true purpose. She was a Sahaja yogini in every respect.

This is a sad moment for anyone who knew Aunty Marillyn; the time was too short as it always is with those who are loved and cherished. We pay tribute to Aunty Marillyn for her devotion to Shri Mataji and her consistent kindness to the people in her life.

On behalf of many, many people, our immense gratitude for the privilege of observing a life well lived.

May her soul rest in everlasting peace and tranquillity at the lotus feet of our Divine Mother.

Sincerely,

Michael Fogarty (with contribution from Chris)

“You are not this body, you are not this mind, you are the spirit, and this is the greatest truth.”

Marilyn had a constancy and decency that underpinned her presence in Sahaja Yoga. There were charismatic personalities who came and went and some flamed out spectacularly.

She had a natural modesty that protected her from this. I recall HH Shri Mataji saying on what seemed a particularly onerous day on tour in India:
“Don’t be bothered by who is on stage with me, who is always visible with me. They might seem close to me. But I know who is really close to me. They hold me in their hearts.”

I wish her a well earned rest and ascent.

Yes, Marillyn was a lovely person, and remains a beautiful soul. She was one of the nicest people in those very early 1980s days in Burwood. Marillyn was always a shining example of a truly kind and gentle woman and a devoted

    Sahaja yogini.

It is a very sad day. I remember when I first came to Australia, my wife came to pick me up with Aunty Marillyn at the airport. She took me under her wings.

I remember her kindness and generosity. She was very dear friend of Heather and I. I am sure she is with Shri Mataji. It is always difficult to not have them around but their memories will always remain with us like a divine fragrance.

    Jai Shri Mataji.

    Jai Shri Mataji.

Dear Michael, Kevin and I have you in our thoughts and know as a yogi you will be comforted by our bandhans and most of all by Shri Mataji’s infinite love for all of us who will also pass on to the greater purpose. I feel we will be needed to continue giving the blessings of Sahaja Yoga for future lost souls.

Marillyn may be preparing for this beautiful work and making a difference in preparation for us when we are chosen to leave this earthly plane too. Marillyn was a wonderful yogini and I am ever grateful for having known her kindness and big heartfelt smiles. l

    With Nirmal love, Linda Pauling.
