Report of Serious Criminal Misconduct at Wamuran & New Visitor’s Entry Requirement

HH Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi’s Wamuran Ashram Queensland

Message from the Life Eternal Trust Australia (LETA) Trustees

on behalf of Sahaja Yoga Australia.

Jai Shri Mataji!

The Trustees need to inform the collective of a serious incident of theft and malicious criminal misconduct that occurred at our Wamuran Queensland collective property between 5th and 6th December 2025, and the implications for those visiting Wamuran and Yogi caretakers living on our collective properties.

During this incident:

  • Internet cabling associated with our internet and security infrastructure was deliberately cut.
  • The wall-mounted UPS power supply was forcibly removed causing damage to the area. The UPS is now missing. The ‘UPS’ is the back-up power supply for the Wamuran camera security system.
  • Supporting cabling for the internet service was intentionally reconfigured in order to disable the WiFi.
  • A CCTV camera, fully complying with OIC* guidelines and directed at the carpark which was in place to protect Sahaja Yogis and HH Shri Mataji’s assets, was physically impeded.

Burden on the collective and residents

Malicious vandalism and theft place significant burdens on the collective and residents, including:

  • Financial costs – repairs, insurance, and security upgrades.
  • Emotional distress – fear, insecurity, and a sense of violation by residents.
  • Diminished community safety, reduced quality of collective wellbeing and potential encouragement of further criminal behaviour.

This behaviour demonstrates the level of misconduct some individuals may be willing to undertake in pursuit of personal aims, creating fear and intimidation, and undermining the social cohesion and wellbeing of the collective.

Other instances

There have been other instances of significant illegality this year, on HH Shri Mataji’s Collective properties in Australia. Many priceless items including HH Shri Mataji’s bed and furniture, puja items and silver, photographs, saris, and more were removed from Hiawatha and Scullin without consent, lawful basis or legitimate legal claim of ownership that could have conferred rights to those Yogis. These properties and all items are held  “in Trust” for HH Shri Mataji are maintained under the custodianship of the Trust as designated by H.H. Shri Mataji.

The malicious damage recently carried out at Wamuran particularly given its location within the ashram was potentially perpetrated by Sahaja Yogi(s) acting under the misguided belief that their conduct was, by some distorted logic, justified.

Duty and obligation to act

As Directors, we have a duty and obligation to act in full compliance with the law. Given the illegality of this malicious damage, the incident had to be reported to the relevant authorities.

Queensland Police have advised that a crime has been committed and they have attended the Wamuran property to initiate a formal investigation. All parties are requested to cooperate fully with the Police, provide any information required, and respond to all questions truthfully.

Security Installations at Collective Properties

In light of the unlawful activities that have taken place at Hiawatha Ashram (Victoria), Scullin Ashram (Canberra), and Wamuran Ashram (Queensland), LETA is installing security systems across all collective properties to ensure the safety of all and to safeguard collective assets under the custodianship of the Trust.
Some Yogis have expressed concerns about CCTV at Wamuran. We wish to clarify:

  • According to the Office of the Information Commissioner Queensland (OIC), installing security cameras on residential property is not prohibited, provided that:
    – Cameras are placed in common areas.
    – Cameras do not intrude on private spaces, such as bedrooms, bathrooms, or other residents’ private areas.
  • As the title owner of Wamuran on behalf of the Trust, LETA may legally install security cameras covering common areas in compliance with privacy laws.

Legal and Ethical Reminder

There is no legal, moral, ethical, Sahaja spiritual, or equitable justification for any Yogi to:

  • Take the law into their own hands, or
  • To remove property without proof of legal entitlement, or
  • Engage in wilful or malicious damage and theft of collective property.

Next Steps for Security and new Visitor’s Entry Requirement

Additional CCTV cameras will be installed in the common areas at Wamuran to enhance security.

Visitors Register Entry Requirement: A visitor’s register via a QR code is being implemented at Wamuran in response to this incident to address safety concerns and meet insurance requirements. This is a reasonable and legitimate mechanism to monitor attendance and to deter trespass on the property. All data collected will be managed securely, in full compliance with the Privacy Act, and will be used solely for administering attendance at Wamuran.

  • Effective immediately, all Yogis entering Wamuran must scan a QR code and input their name into the register as a condition of entry.
  • Upon scanning, a Google Form will open on your phone for completion as part of the entry process.
  • All data collected will be handled securely and used only for the administration of attendance at Wamuran.
  • The following information will be requested on entry:
    – Name
    – Phone number
    – Acknowledgement that your conduct while on the property will remain dignified and consistent with, and subject to, the delegated authority of the LETA framework for Sahaja Yoga Australia.

Thank you

The Trustees sincerely thank all Yogis for their support and cooperation with the new QR code entry requirement in helping to maintain the safety, security, and wellbeing of our collective community, and especially at Wamuran, as we work together to respond to this serious incident.
