Jai Shri Mataji!
Shri Mataji, the Goddess, is revealed. She was never absent. Our attention simply turns towards the glory of Shri Adi Shakti.
This Navaratri, Sahaja yogis across Australia kept a nine-night offering to Shri Mataji. Havans were offered in homes and centres, at Shri Mataji’s sacred temples and in quiet suburbs.
Over the nine nights, something revealed itself. Night after night we returned to the havan and to inner silence. Slowly the outer offering fell away, and an inner one began.
The procession of the nine nights
The nine forms of the Devi worshipped at Navaratri are nine movements of one power, the Adi Shakti, as She enters creation and then returns to Herself. Shailaputri, daughter of the mountain, is the Kundalini still asleep at the base of the spine. Siddhidatri, the giver of all attainment, is that same power completing Her ascent at the Sahasrara.
Between them lies the evolution of the human soul.
To worship Shri Mataji over nine nights is to walk the Sahaja path. Each evening a different aspect of our Mother looked back at us, and in each one we glimpsed something of the Divine.
We saw our fear She dissolves, the confusion She cuts through, and the ego She gently brings to ground. The battle against the forces of evil is not a myth from long ago. It is fought within every Sahaja yogi, and Navaratri is the occasion where together we invite Shri Mataji to fight it for us.
The miracle of the collective
In our homes we pray. When the collective comes together, something greater happens. As the week went on, many of us felt the vibrations grow stronger. The cool breeze rose more readily, and thoughts fell silent sooner. This is the power of the collective: many Sahaja yogis gathering with one attention and becoming one collective.
This is the selflessness Shri Mataji speaks of. We think we are giving something to Shri Mataji, but the offering is really an opening. Whatever we offer becomes the channel through which Her love flows back to us, multiplied. The hosts who opened their homes, the musicians who sang late into the night, and the helpers who arranged flowers and prepared prasad were all preparing the ground for the Sahaja collective.
Into the havan
In the havan fire, the great truth of the nine nights becomes manifest. Everything we cling to can be offered: our heaviness, our conditioning, the small ego that insists on being in charge. With each name of the Goddess and each offering into the flames, we gave up a little more. What remains is the clear and joyful state of the Spirit that Shri Mataji gives us.
Navaratri does not end
The flames may have died down, and the flowers have been offered, but Navaratri does not really end. The Devi we worshipped outside is the Great Devi who rises within us each time we raise the Kundalini and sit in meditation. These nine nights reminded us who we are, and where to look.
With deep gratitude to everyone who hosted, supported, offered, cooked., cleaned, sang, served and attended.
