Spring has returned to the Southern Highlands, and with it, Corbett Gardens in Bowral is once again alive with colour as Tulip Time Festival unfolds across the town from 11 September to 5 October. Amid the thousands of blooms, the market stalls and the gentle bustle of a community festival, Music of Joy took to the gardens to offer something quietly different: an invitation to seekers to experience their own inner blossoming.
An Awakening Within
There is a simplicity to the timing that seems more than coincidence. As Mother Nature unfurls her tulips across the Highlands, row upon row awakening in colour after a long winter, so too does Sahaja Yoga speak of an awakening within, the rise of the Kundalini, and the experience of Self Realisation that Shri Mataji gave so freely to humanity. Music of Joy’s presence at the festival was a gentle reminder that this awakening is not confined to a hall or a program; it can happen anywhere people gather in openness, curiosity and joy, including a garden full of strangers admiring flowers together.
A Moment of Stillness and Joy
Carried by the collective spirit that has always been a hallmark of Music of Joy, the music offered festival-goers a moment of stillness amid the festivity. For many passers-by, it may have been their first encounter with Sahaja Yoga: a few minutes of bhajan, a few words about meditation, and for some, their first experience of vibrations and the thoughtless awareness that Shri Mataji described as our true, ever-present state. Small moments like these, offered without pressure or expectation, are so often how seekers first find their way to Sahaja Yoga.
A Collective Offering
None of this happens without the quiet support of the collective. From the musicians who gave their time and talent, to those who organised the logistics of performing at a public festival, to everyone who held the space in meditation. Tulip Time at Bowral was, in its own way, a collective offering of Shri Mataji’s work to a wider public. It is exactly the kind of outreach that asks for nothing in return, content simply to let seekers encounter something beautiful and, perhaps, something more.
The Blossoming Continues
As the tulips continue to bloom across Corbett Gardens through early October, it is a lovely thought that somewhere among them, a few more seekers may have felt, even briefly, the same quiet blossoming within themselves.
